Hi everyone. I'm a 16-year-old aspiring entomologist. I like to do bug photography as well. Just wondering if I could get some feedback on some of my favorite pics that I've taken... The last link will allow you to look at any of my pictures... Thanks!

I don't mind the critique... it's really helpful... the first three pics were taken with a different camera too... that might have something to do with the lack of contrast... yea... i'm working on the camera thing... Trying to get a job and stuff... A good camera for bugs is a good $1,000 usually.... |

Very nice. Nothing bad about them. However, see if you can get close up shots for some.

Some pictures lack contrast, the first 3 actually. You should always shoot with no dept of field for this type of photography.
The bugs are great but why put everything into focus. That is what I teach to others. Play with the depth of field. I may sound harsh but that's the bottom line. I give bad critiques to my students but guess what, THEY DON'T WANT TO HEAR THE GOOD. They already know that. Other than that, keep shooting. I am curious but not curious enough yet. Don't quit. |

Your photos are awesome! Nice web site, too - I bookmarked it.
Best of luck with your entomology career, and congrats for following your passions! |

If you would like to continue with this, I suggest getting a camera where you can play with what is in focus and perhaps a camera with a great macro setting, so you can get really crisp, clear closeups. Some of your photos lack contrast. Try shooting things at different angles, but congrats on your passion
