First you will have to tell us what affordable means to you.

For those of us who spend about $2,000 to $5,000 to replace our DSLR bodies every two to three years, a DSLR with a lens at under $470 is Affordable in a huge way (Nikon D40 with 18-55 mm lens).

While all digital camera have auto-focus, all DSLR cameras have the option of being manually focused. I just shot some sports last night and used the manual focus option on my D3 to pre-focus at the peak of action.

There are a handful of P&S cameras that allow a form of manual focus, but they are nearly as costly (and in some cases more costly) that a true DSLR and suffer from two things 1) shutter lag and 2) a sensor that is from 5 to 15 times smaller than the sensor used on a DSLR camera.
